- Under the supervision of the project manager(s), and following the specific needs of each mission, the Principal Electrical Engineer (Renewable Energy) will be responsible for the design, sizing, supervision and monitoring of installation work for solar systems. He will play a key role in project management, ensuring that technical studies and works are carried out efficiently and in accordance with technical and regulatory standards.
The consultant will have to carry out the tasks below:
- Technical studies :
- Analysis of Energy Needs:
- Carry out detailed assessments of the energy needs of target infrastructure
- Collect and analyze data to determine the most suitable solar solutions
- Support the pre-selection of equipment and also the verification of the proposed systems against local standards and UNOPS standards.
- Design and Sizing of Solar Systems:
- Design solar systems taking into account technical constraints and specific site needs
- Use design and simulation software (for example, PVsyst, AutoCAD) to optimize the sizing of installations.
- Development of specifications:
- Write technical specifications for equipment and installation work
- Prepare the necessary documents for calls for tenders and selection of suppliers and installers.
- Monitoring of Studies and Works:
- Supervision of Technical Studies:
- Ensure monitoring of technical studies carried out by consultants and design offices
- Validate feasibility studies, plans and technical diagrams
- Assistance to Design Offices
- coordination with other designers
- Provide technical support to design offices to ensure the quality and relevance of studies
- Provide advice and recommendations to improve technical proposals.
- Coordination of Installation Work:
- Plan and coordinate installation work with field teams
- Supervise the execution of work to ensure compliance with plans and technical specifications.
Sous la supervision du ou des chef(s) de projet, et suivant les besoins spécifiques de chaque mission, le consultant devra accomplir les tâches ci-dessous:
- Réaliser les plans techniques liés aux installations de plomberie, et/ou CVC dans le cadre de chaque projet, en prenant en compte la dépose de toute installation défectueuse le cas échéant. Cela inclut l’analyse des plans existants, la conception des nouvelles installations et la coordination avec les autres intervenants.
- Analyse des plans existants : L’ingénieur fluides devra analyser en détail les plans existants afin d’identifier les installations défectueuses ou obsolètes.
- Dépose des installations défectueuses : Sur la base des plans existants réalisés par l’architecte et avec la coordination des ingénieurs du projet, l’ingénieur fluides devra identifier les installations défectueuses à déposer. Cela comprend également le dimensionnement des équipements (sanitaires, réseaux de climatisation, etc. L’ingénieur devra prévoir les méthodes appropriées pour déposer ces installations tout en assurant la sécurité des travailleurs et la protection du bâtiment.
- Conception des nouvelles installations de plomberie et/ou CVC : en se basant sur les plans produits par l’architecte ou tout autre entité et à la demande du Chef de Projet, l’ingénieur fluides devra concevoir les nouvelles installations.
- Coordination avec les autres intervenants : L’ingénieur fluides devra collaborer étroitement avec les autres professionnels impliqués dans le projet, tels que l’architecte, l’ingénieur électrique et l’équipe technique du projet ou tout autre membre se joignant au projet. Il devra assurer, avec l’équipe technique du projet, une coordination efficace entre les différents corps de métier pour garantir l’intégration harmonieuse des nouvelles installations dans le bâtiment.
- Préparer la documentation technique, y compris les notes de calculs, les spécifications et les manuels d’utilisation, etc.
- Supervision de Projet : Planifier et superviser l’installation, le fonctionnement, et la réparation des systèmes conçus.
- Effectuer des tests et des essais pour s’assurer que les systèmes et équipements respectent les spécifications et les normes de sécurité.
- Diagnostiquer et résoudre les problèmes des systèmes installés, et assurer l’élaboration des plans de maintenance préventive et corrective.
- Assurer la conformité des projets aux normes et règlements en vigueur.
- Former et soutenir les équipes techniques, les utilisateurs et le personnel de maintenance sur l’utilisation et la gestion des systèmes installés.
- Site survey: The architect must go to the sites and carry out a complete survey of each building affected by the renovations. The survey must include all dimensions, locations of openings (doors, windows), existing installations (plumbing, electricity, etc.), as well as any other information relevant to the creation of the plans.
- Existing plans: The architect must produce existing plans for each site, including plans, sections, facades, perspective views, etc. The plans must be precise and to scale, faithfully reflecting the current condition of the buildings.
- Demolition plans: On the basis of the surveys carried out and in accordance with the project, the architect must produce the demolition plans. This may include the removal of the roof, plumbing installations, interior partitions and wooden joinery. Demolition plans must indicate the specific areas to be demolished, complying with all applicable regulations and standards.
- Project plans: The architect must also produce project plans corresponding to the work to be undertaken.
- Technical specifications: The architect will draft detailed technical specifications for each aspect of the works on these packages, including the materials to be used, construction methods and any regulations/standards to be respected
- The consultant must participate in the provisional and final technical acceptance of the work.

- Préparation de la Documentation Technique : Préparer la documentation technique nécessaire, y compris les notes de calcul, les spécifications des matériaux et des méthodes de construction.
- Supervision de Projet : Planifier et superviser les travaux.
- The home-based Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the provision of electrical engineering services to IPMG work streams, country offices, and project teams. The scope of these services will be defined with each request for services and may include technical review, design, and guidance
- The Senior Electrical Engineer will play a key role in ensuring the safety and quality of UNOPS infrastructure works. On a request basis from IPMG and country offices, the Senior Electrical Engineer will be expected to fulfill the following responsibilities in line with industry standards and applicable national and international codes and guidelines:
- Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university is required.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of Master’s Degree (total 9 years of experience).
- Work Experience: Required experience:
- At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in electrical engineering with strong knowledge of design, installation, operation and monitoring of electrical power supply and distribution systems, especially building wiring installations, is required.
- Understanding of and experience with renewable energy solutions, including solar and wind, as well as stand-alone power systems and microgrids, is highly desired.
- Understanding of and experience with electrical works for hospitals, health clinics, and waste water treatment plants is desired.
- Understanding of and experience in development infrastructure sector is desired.
- Knowledge of sustainable and resilient approaches to electrical engineering and green technologies is an asset.
- Fluency in English required.
- Fluency in Spanish is required.
Certification:
- Membership of a Professional Institution at Chartered / Professional Eng / Eur Ing or similar is desired.
- As a UNOPS ICA retainer, the incumbent is required to complete four (4) online mandatory courses at present upon signature of your contract and prior to commencing any retainer assignment related to Ethics and Integrity, the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, Security awareness and Cybersecurity Awareness Training. These courses are made available on UNOPS learning platform and shall be completed within the first three months following the contract signature, at no cost for UNOPS.
