Role Description
We are seeking a Senior Site Reliability / GitOps Engineer to join our team. This role is ideal for a hands-on technologist passionate about Linux, who is excited to drive operations automation in both private and public clouds. You will work with some of the best people in the industry, leveraging open-source technologies and Canonical’s leading products for software operation automation.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development of automation and GitOps practices within your team.
- Collaborate closely with the IS architect to align solutions with the IS architecture vision.
- Design and architect services that can be offered as products to the organization.
- Apply your Infrastructure as Code (IaC) experience to enhance automation and IaC processes within IS.
- Automate software operations for reusability and consistency across private and public clouds.
- Maintain operational responsibility for Canonical’s core services, networks, and infrastructure.
- Develop skills in troubleshooting, capacity planning, and performance investigation.
- Set up, maintain, and use observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Elasticsearch.
- Provide assistance and collaborate with globally distributed engineering, operations, and support teams.
- Focus on larger projects and automation of manual tasks with uninterrupted development time.
- Share your experience and best practices with team members through mentorship and collaboration.
- Handle time-critical escalations with responsibility.
What We Are Looking For
- Modern view on hosting architecture, driven by Infrastructure as Code (IaC) across private and public clouds.
- Product mindset with a focus on developing products rather than just solutions.
- Python software development experience with large projects.
- Experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration systems.
- Proven experience managing and deploying cloud infrastructure with code.
- Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls.
- Familiarity with various forms of Linux storage, from Ceph to databases.
- Hands-on experience administering enterprise Linux servers.
- Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in computer science or a related engineering field.
- Effective communication skills in English via email, chat, video, voice calls, and in-person.
- Ability to troubleshoot from kernel to web and a willingness to ask for help when needed.
- Flexibility and a quick learning ability.
- Passion for open-source, especially Ubuntu or Debian.
- Comfort working within distributed teams and adapting to fast-changing environments.
